Dr Justin Gainor (USA)
Dr Justin Gainor
(USA)Dr Gainor is a medical oncologist specialising in thoracic malignancies and early-phase clinical trials. He is currently Division Chief for Solid Tumor Medical Oncology at the Massachusetts General Brigham Cancer Institute. His research focuses on the clinical development of novel targeted therapies and immunotherapies. In parallel, his translational research efforts centre around developing predictive biomarkers and elucidating mechanisms of resistance to therapy.
Dr Gainor completed his undergraduate training at Johns Hopkins University and received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He subsequently completed his training in internal medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital and training in medical oncology in the combined Massachusetts General Brigham/Dana-Farber Cancer Institute fellowship programme. In addition to his appointment at Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr Gainor is currently an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School.
Dr Gainor has led several Phase 1–3 clinical trials and is involved in multi-institutional collaborative efforts focused on biomarker discovery. He is a member of the European Society for Medical Oncology Translational Research and Precision Medicine Working Group.

Prof. Sanjay Popat (UK)
Prof. Sanjay Popat
(UK) Prof. Popat is a consultant thoracic medical oncologist at The Royal Marsden Hospital and professor of thoracic oncology at The Institute of Cancer Research, London, United Kingdom. He is internationally recognised as an expert in the treatment of lung cancer, mesothelioma, and thymic malignancies.
Prof. Popat qualified in 1994 from Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, London, with a triple distinction and obtained his PhD in molecular genetics in 2002, after which he undertook a postdoctoral clinician scientist fellowship and a Higher Education Funding Council for England clinical senior lectureship. He has been awarded national and international prizes for his research, in addition to four research fellowships. His interests include lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies, with a focus on the complexities of genetic profiling in cancer, including the optimisation and implementation of genomics into routine clinical practice, as well as development of novel drug treatments through clinical trials.
Prof. Popat also holds several national and international roles. Nationally, he chairs the British Thoracic Oncology Group Research Group. Internationally, he sits on the Foundation Council of the European Thoracic Oncology Platform and serves on the Thoracic Faculty for the European Society of Medical Oncology. His research on ctDNA testing and novel drugs has led to implementation in international treatment guidelines and National Health Service funding approvals.
